This project is a true definition of "trailblazing" and is our pilot project for expanding to other rural villages.
The long term objective is to provide these trainees with the necessary equipment and materials to set up their own business for drilling and repair of wells.
Trailblazer Foundation made formed an agreement with a local well driller to apprentice two residents from Sras Village and train them in well-drilling and repair and paid their salary of $25 USD per month for two months.
The apprentices then stayed on another five months as employees, gaining further skills and knowledge. Through an International Rotary Grant they were provided with the necessary equipment and materials to set up their own well drilling and repair business.
Operating autonomously since 2007, the Sras Well Drilling team has installed 10 pit wells, 72 pump wells, and 37 pull-pumps in and around Sras Village. These wells and pumps serve over 3,650 people. In addition, they were used to train the Trailblazer well drilling team in 2008.
The long term objective is that Trailblazer Foundation, other NGO’s (Non-Government Organizations), and local villagers hire these men to drill wells in other rural areas.
